From the kitchen and the utility on the ground floor, to upstairs in the dressing room and guest bedroom, join us as we explore this timeless family home by Rachael Somerville.
This spectacular farmhouse-inspired home in the heart of Shropshire has seen a full renovation over the past two years to reconfigure the layout on both floors and incorporate a side extension that breathes new life and brings an open-plan feel to the property.
The Kitchen
Embracing all the beauty you’d expect of a farmhouse kitchen, this neutral space is abundant with textures and design details that give understated character. The kitchen by Anthony Lewis is a classic style with cabinetry painted in Old White by Farrow & Ball, dressed with solid brass hardware from a trio of our signature collections.
Anthony shares, “We worked with Rachael on projects at her previous property and we were really excited to have the opportunity to work with her again at her beautiful new home. Rachael’s style works perfectly with our handcrafted, traditional furniture. Manufactured from the highest quality materials and then hand painted in Farrow and Ball’s ‘Old White’, the addition of the aged brass hinges and cabinet handles add the finishing touch.”
A grand marble-topped island complete with a Quooker tap, bar area and ample storage commands presence in the room, accentuated by a trio of pendant lights. A view to the utility room through the part-glazed door harnesses an element associated with countryside architecture.
Natural touches like the flooring, bar stools and styling contribute to the organic interior and bring a softness to the symmetry throughout the design. Framing the oven, a backsplash of Lapicida ceramic tiles creates movement and nods to the style of brick often seen in English farmhouse design.
The Utility Room
Moving into the utility room, the interior feels continual whilst maintaining its own charming identity. Cabinetry is painted in Shaded White by Farrow & Ball, a light grey beige that lends itself beautifully to warm and cool palettes.
V groove panelling achieves a more modern look without compromising the farmhouse integrity and opting for a limestone floor anchors the colours displayed in the shelf styling.
The Living Room
Enriched with homely charm, the family living room is equally welcoming and sophisticated. A forest green sofa by Neptune delivers a dose of colour to the room with further green accents present throughout the styling.
Dressed with a mix of unique objects in a tonal palette, bespoke joinery also crafted by Anthony Lewis draws the eye and adds to the authentic character of the room.
Rachael notes, “When planning your interior, always envisage what you want the space to be; what do you want its purpose to be. This is a great base to then work from when choosing the furniture and decorative pieces.”
Features our Cotswold collection in our dark bronze (DBZ) finish.
The Play Room
The design of this playroom demonstrates that a space imagined for dedicated play doesn’t need to compromise the overall decor of a home. The floor-to-ceiling bespoke media unit by Anthony Lewis is a functional and stylish option, with an array of cabinets to house toys and games, alongside shelves to display favourites too.
Features our Cotswold collection in our aged brass (BEL) finish.
The Master Suite
The Bedroom and Dressing Room
Layered with textures, Rachael’s master bedroom and adjoining dressing room showcase a soft neutral palette, punctuated with luxurious details. Interior hardware in the same brass finish and complementary woven materials support the flow of the relaxed design.
Features our Rotunda and Withenshaw collections, both in our aged brass (BEL) finish.
The En suite
Embracing the natural beauty of oak, the master en suite is an all-neutral affiar. The honey-coloured The Tiddesley vanity from Holly Oak House offsets the brass fixtures, whilst an elegant Claremont freestanding vanity mirror graces the vanity, accentuating the shape of the cabinet knobs.
Features our Rotunda , Withenshaw and Claremont collections, all in our aged brass (BEL) finish.
The Family Bathroom
Quietly luxurious, the mix of materials and individual pieces achieve the look of a blissful master bathroom. Painted timber cladding provides the perfect backdrop to The Wootton vanity, also by Holly Oak House, with radiant golden tones elevating the interior to create a tranquil aesthetic.
Features our Bakes collection in our aged brass (BEL) finish.
Opalescent glazed brick tiles from Lapicida reflect the light beautifully and unite the neutral colours of the room. Details like the marble vanity, duo of wall lights and a series of artwork all add harmonious style to Rachael’s design.
The Guest Suite
The Bedroom
Atmospheric and refined, Rachael’s guest bedroom panelling and cabinetry are painted in Mouse's Back by Farrow & Ball - a fawny colour that continues the farmhouse appeal consistent throughout the home. Architectural details like arched open doorways create visual interest and juxtapose the linear shapes seen elsewhere in the room.
Features our Cotswold collection in our aged brass (BEL) finish.
The En suite
Rachael's guest en suite also features another The Tiddesley vanity by Holly Oak House, which is complemented by traditional brass hardware to bring a neutral two-tone look to the serene space.
Features our Withenshaw collection in our aged brass (BEL) finish.
Children's Bathroom
This colourful en suite for Rachael's daughter also features The Wootton vanity by Holly Oak House, with the addition of a carrara marble top. Minimal dovetail detail drawers sit above a single shelf, providing the perfect place for a basket or two.
