English Farmhouse Interior Inspiration

English Farmhouse Interior Inspiration

A truly breathtaking home, from the butler’s pantry to the bathroom, it’s our pleasure to show you around.

Sitting pretty in the sweeping English countryside is the charming home of Designer and Founder of GROVE England, Laura Butler-Madden.

A renovated Cotswolds farmhouse reimagined to create a welcoming family home, the decor is abundant with relaxed elegance and beautifully showcases Laura’s signature aspirational-meets-homely style.

Speaking of the interior, Laura shares, “When designing our beautiful old farm, I knew that the main colour palette would be mostly warm and natural. I adore nature - the colours in natural stones and wood, and being in a former farmhouse, we wanted to bring nature into every space and touch point possible.”

The kitchen

Spacious and light-filled, Laura’s stylish open-plan kitchen and living design are thoughtfully zoned to give each space a unique feel, whilst still flowing seamlessly.

An inviting neutral aesthetic, arched doorways and curved furniture create effortless movement and contrast to the linear feel of the kitchen cabinetry and freestanding island.

The kitchen cabinetry is a warm mushroom tone adorned with traditional brass hardware that brings sophisticated warmth and complements the natural tones of the statement marble backsplash and counters.

Layered with textures, each element, from the decorative brass grille panels, to the cloud-like boucle chairs, adds dimension and interest, whilst also adding further character to the neutral decor.

Speaking of the cabinet hardware, Laura shares, “When designing a space, particularly a kitchen or laundry room, one of the most important details is the hardware – it’s a touch point and something that will get noticed and used many times each day. I love nature, so I always love to work with metals that have beautiful texture and patina over time. I usually lean towards lovely warm colours so aged brass or bronze are my favourites.”

The butler's pantry

A step through the kitchen wall arch reveals a contemporary classic Butler’s Pantry. Continuing the organic colour palette, the room features authentic oak cabinets and a patterned stone floor.

The library

Styled with scenic paper to bring in the beauty of the Cotswolds countryside, the library room is a relaxed space to retreat and unwind. Bespoke cabinetry and shelving neatly house books and games, whilst a comforting window seat and accent chairs invite you to slow down from the pace of modern life and indulge in simple pastimes.

Laura shared, “Bringing the outdoors in, this is what we call our ‘garden room’. I can’t include enough nature in my designs - I love it and I’m so proud of how this space has turned out. It has so much warmth and character, we adore spending time in here.”

The study

Polished and feminine, Laura’s study is a truly serene affair with calming pinks and creams creating a haven for inspiration. Cabinets are painted in Leather III by Paint and Paper Library, whilst the mural-esque walls are papered in a Anna Glover design.

The master bathroom

A true statement piece, the central shower in the master bathroom is a contemporary masterpiece. Crafted with Italian marble, impeccable curves shape the lavish design.

Set to a backdrop of textured cabinets paired with bamboo-inspired hardware and styled with orchids and verdant greenery, the room is an elegant oasis.

Of the design, Laura notes, “I love to add fabric and texture to a bathroom to make it feel more cosy and lived in; an armchair or a footstool, beautiful blinds - all these elements combine to create the full picture. As an artist would layer a painting, I design in the same way.”

The family bathroom

Evoking a sense of lived-in minimalism, features like exposed beams, skylights and a grand bathtub form the look of the family bathroom. Embracing the less-is-more feel, from freestanding towel rails to the block bath, clean linear details bring a boutique-esque ambience to the design.

Lily's bedroom

In this charming girl’s bedroom, the interior creates a feminine and whimsical wonderland for Laura’s daughter, Lily. In shell pinks and warm whites, the calming colour palette is complemented by ditsy florals and strawberry block prints by Molly Mahon to dress the upholstery and walls.

What advice would you give for achieving a unified aesthetic throughout the whole home, whilst creating personality in each room?

Laura says, “Because my design tends to be quite ‘orderly’ I would usually stick to the same (or very similar) hardware finish throughout the house but add character to each room by switching up the design/collection that I use.”

Laura says, “For this project, I chose a mixture of classic styles like Cotswold and Sutton and I also adore the Grove collection that we used in multiple rooms. I have a bit of a thing for bamboo texture and often bring it into my designs, so the Grove pieces are perfect!”
